Itching is worse than pain

Looks like I managed to get myself a nice allergic reaction to the sun yesterday. My back was so itchy that I had to come home from work because I couldn't sit still anymore. My brain felt like it was going to crack. In fact, the whole way home from work on the train was spent squeezing and pounding my leg to create enough pain to take my mind off the itching. Once I got home I took a shower which seemed to only worsen the itching causing me to roll up in a little ball in the bathroom. I literally wanted to rip my skin off with a knife, spoon, broken glass, anything.
Unfortunately my wife's doctor was unable to help us and since my own doctor's name eluded me (last time I was there was more than 4 years ago), I had to make do with the advice the assistant could give me. That was to go to the pharmacy and get some menthol gel to rub on to cool my skin down a little. That helped a little bit. Fortunately a few hours the itching got a little less. In the evening it dawned on me that since this was an allergic reaction, perhaps an antihistamine pill would do the trick. It did. Not long after the itching almost completely subsided and together with the ibuprofen I took, I was able to get some sleep.
Today it seems to be a little itchy, but nearly as bad as yesterday, thank God.
On another note, my scalp is peeling quite a bit, which looks kind of funny now that I have no hair. I shaved my head again this morning and it was a lot smoother than the day before yesterday, probably because I had less hair to shave off. I love the smooth feeling on my scalp when I run my hand across it.
We went to the CWI for Tammy's Dutch lessons. The guy, Ali, was very friendly and assured Tammy that she was indeed a valid candidate for the "Inburgeringscursus", she was very relieved, as was I. She'll know within the next two weeks when and where she'll be starting. Hurray! It's one year of pretty intensive lessons though, every day, 4 hours a day. Hierna kan ze vloeiend Nederlands spreken!
