Been a while

It's been a few days since my last post. This is probably due to the fact that it's been a rather busy week. On Thursday Tammy and I went to the place where they interview and classify foreigners so they can be put in the right Dutch classes. I know that sounds bad but that's how it works. They offer various levels of Dutch classes to cater for both the analphabetic famer off the highlands of some third world country and people with third level education and everything in between. That way nobody will feel like they're thrown into deep or not getting enough. Tammy has been put into level 2. That means 600 hours of Dutch lessons and lessons about how the everything works in the Netherlands, ie politics and history. By the end she's going to to know more about the Netherlands than most Dutch people.
I don't have a Things Me and My Husband Have Argued About or Things people say page like Tammy, but here's one for the books:
<Me> I think I'll get you some really sexy lingerie for Christmas.
<Her> I'd rather have a DVD burner!

What a geek! I love her! I suppose she's right. Once you put the lingerie on, it's only going to stay on for a few minutes whereas a movie burned to a DVD is going to stay on for a lot longer :)
This weekend and up til Tuesday I am going to have the house to myself. Tammy is house sitting and baby sitting two besenji dogs, Ike and Guss. They're beautiful dogs and I am sure tammy is going to end up taking a billion pictures of them. They have the body of a boxer but the face of a whippet or something else really thin. I wrote about them a while back. I think I'll probably watch a lot of TV this weekend, listen to all the music that Tammy doesn't like and pick my nose incessantly (that drives her insane). I also won't have to worry about leaving some hot water for her after I shower. It's going to be weird sleeping in our bed by myself and waking up to an empty (not counting all the pets) house. I hope she'll be OK in that big house all by herself. She has two dogs to guard her, but like I said before, they don't bark and they're usually quite happy to see anyone at all. "Oh look! A burglar! Let's see if he wants to pet us!" I have enough cereal and milk to last me through the weekend, so I'll be OK.
I finally managed to get my WiFi network card working under Linux thanks to this. It's a really cool way to get those closed-source, binary-only Windows drivers working under Linux using a wrapper around them. I even managed to get WPA working this way. I am really impressed. They allow you to test it for 30 days before you buy it. It's really not expensive, $19 the last time I checked. They also make excellent drivers for Conexant chipset based WinModems. Unfortunately they don't work too well on my laptop since they cause conflicts with my sound card. Oh well, I have a PCMCIA modem that works really well and I rarely need to dial into anywhere.
