Job sites
I just spent the last 5 hours or so putting my CV and profile on a few job search websites. I really think that there ought to be some kind of standard markup language that would allow you to update the same file to all the different websites. Instead I had to painstakingly fill in a billion forms, click just as many buttons, often with the same result. I propose we come up with some kind of XML markup standard that will define the various items that these sites like to see. Most of them want job history, education history, skills, etc. There was actually almost no difference between the information needed on these sites. I understand why they'd rather not have people upload Word or RTF documents, they can't be read by everyone and their format differs depending on the program that created them. Uploading a HTML file is not really an option either, because you can't tell which part is the job history and which part details the skillset. I am not familair enough with XML to come up with something clever, but if someone out there wants to give me a job to give it a go, be sure to leave a comment. My CV can be found here (zip file). Note that the files are available in PDF, RTF and Word doc format.
