Well, it's been almost a week since my last confession... It's been such a super hectic week. Monday was my birthday, my 30th birthday, no less. I don't feel any different at all. I am not sure if you're supposed to. Got some nice things, a jumper, that's a pull-over for all you North-American types, a book by the name of The curious incident of the dog in the night time and a Philips Coolskin electric razor to shave my head with. I am still awaiting a package from Canada which is still on its way. I'm very happy with my presents and the calls people gave me. Nice to know people care.
I am terrible when it comes to keeping in touch with people. I always forget to call when it's people's birthday or send cards for Christmas. I think we still have a stack of cards we bought 3 years ago. I know that's pretty bad but we always leave it til the last moment and then it's pretty much too late.
I mentioned it has been a hectic weekend and then I digressed somewhat. It's been a mad-house at work. We're rolling out in about a week and a half from now. That means in that in a very short period 300 new workstations with our newly developed Linux distribution will be deployed across the world. The support organisation is still busy trying to figure out if they're capable of handling this or if they even want to do this. The engineering team, that's us, are going to get hit with issues we never anticiapted, I'm sure. Oh well, we'll have to play it by ear, I guess. On top of that I've been asked to configure a NetApps NetCache C1100 for another team. I had never used one of those things before so it was quite a challenge. Last night I worked late in the office to try and get the thing up and running. To cut a long and possibly quite boring short, I managed to mangle the thing into a state where it wouldn't even boot up anymore. I had to call the proxy support guys in Kuala Lumpur to help me. The guy was super friendly and we had it up and running in about an hour and a half or so. Nothing is as educational as a complete and utter screw-up.
