Learning XML
Just for shits and giggles I thought I might start reading up about XML. I have been very interested in XML-RPC, a method for clients to send requests to a server and receive replies encapsulated in XML. It's used by websites like Blogger to allow 3rd party clients, such as W.Bloggar to submit new blog entries. There are many implementations of XML-RPC, I am particularly interested in the Java and Python ones. There are so many things you could potentially do with XML-RPC. The beauty of it is that you could write the server in one language and the client in yet another. XML is platform and programming language neutral. Like the Esperanto for data exchange. I am currently reading the J2EE documentation, which is a mere 1542 pages big, according to Acrobat Reader. It'll be a while before I get any good at it, I guess. The last time I did any kind of Java programming was at about 10 years ago.

I took some pictures of Spencer and Bailey "playing" with eachother. They spent a while staring at eachother while Spencer and Bailey sort of growled at eachother. Then they spent a long time running after eachother in circles. Bailey doesn't seem to understand that when a cat wags its tail it's NOT happy, it means it's annoyed. Bailey really enjoys trying to pull at it. Spencer seems to be very tolerant of Bailey's pestering though but once he gets enough he gives Bailey a good swipe after which Bailey usually stops, so it's all good.
I had a meeting today about what projects will happen next year. Looks like there might some very nice things lurking at the horizon. I sure hope they extend my contract. The customer I am working for is great and I love the work I get to do there. I've been there for 3 years now. I am not sure how much longer the department will exist, since everything is going to move India at some point in the future. Such is the way of the future. I wonder how much a garbage truck operator earns...
