Total blog slacker

Currently listening to: Fatboy Slim - First down

I've been a bad, bad blogger lately. I haven't really been in much of a blogging mood lately. It seems that when I get home from work, the last thing on my mind is computers. I've been thinking about redesigning the layout of my blog. I am not sure what I want it to look like, but something less black, I guess. I don't just want to change the colours though, it needs to be a little more radical than that.
I've been playing a little with RedHat Enterprise Linux 4, RedHat's latest version of their Enterprise-ready Linux distribution. On the outside, it still looks pretty much the same way it did in release 3. The real changes are on a much lower level than the GUI. The biggest difference is that 2.6.9 is now the default kernel, instead of their heavily modified 2.4.21 kernel. RHEL4 also supports NFSv4, apparently. NFSv4 has very tightly integrated Kerberos functionality, finally allowing authenticated networked file IO (other than using scp and ftp, of course). I'll have to play around some more with RHEL4, but it looks quite nice.
Yesterday our ADSL modem came in. Looks like we're getting closer to our switch from cable to ADSL. I can't wait to ditch our sucky cable connection. Well, to be fair the connection itself is OK. It's the ridiculous 40GB/month "fair" use policy that has us pissed off. For years we struggled with shit network connections and now that we finally get to use what we pay for, we use up our bandwidth usage in 8 days. Anyway, our new provider, Demon, should be a lot better. I've heard a lot of good things about them. The other upside of switching to this new provider is that we can get rid of our hosting plans we have now. Demon allows people to run their own web servers at home, hurray for Demon.
This blog entry is starting to turn out to be a little longer than the "I am sorry I didn't blog more" apology. Today or yesterday we got the official document stating that the apartment is ours. I say today or yesterday because I didn't check the mail yesterday. I should make a copy of it, keep the copy at home and stick the original in a safe in the bank or something. Aparently it's bad news when you lose that document. Not that they can take the house off you or anything, it's just a pain in the arse to get a new one.
Bailey was sick last week, poor thing. He had some kind of tummy bug, so he was getting sick a lot. He didn't eat or drink for a few days so we took him to the vet. He got a shot and we have to give him a pill twice a day. He's feeling a lot better now, although he still has the shits a bit.
On that note, I will go help Tammy setup W.Bloggar on her laptop so she can post to her blog with it. If she were using Linux, I couldn've set her up with PyQLogger, which is much better, of course.
