Sed Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custudios

Who watches the watchers? There were no less than three articles dealing with inappropriate police behaviour in the news this morning.
Did you ever wake up and know that the rest of the day is going to go downhill from there on? I am having one of those days today. I slept like crap, woke up more times than you can shake a stick at and some really weird dreams. It's a good thing I have yoga at lunch time, or I might end up stick a pencil in someone's nose. Anyway, without further ado, here are the artciles.

Police patrols red light district unnecessarily
A group representing the prostitutes in the northern town of Groningen (don't try to pronounce this if you're not Dutch, you will rupture something) have registered a complaint with the mayor of the city. Their complaint is that the police cars tend to patrol the area a little too much when nothing is going on and can't be found anywhere when the shit really hits the fan. According to the group the cops are there to do some bird watching and nothing more. The police of course deny this and say that their presence is due to the high number of criminals that frequent the area. Sure, uh huh...

We'll always have Paris
The nightly escapades of a group of cops of the Amsterdam district were part of a much larger race between several national police precincts. The cops from various cities would drive as far as they dared during their shift and then take a picture of their patrol car at the destination. The ultimate goal was Paris, which had been calculated to be achievable in one night's shift. However, their plan was thwarted when one of the cop cars got photographed speeding down a motorway last December during one of their little escapades. A wide-scale investigation is currently underway.

Anti corruption team indicted
The nine members of the Thai anti corruption team are being held on corruption charges. Their accused of enriching themselves illegally. Who can you trust? I'm sure the team will do an internal investigation and the guilty will be punished...

UAE beheads four murderers
Four Philipino men, convicted of murdering another Philipino man, were beheaded yesterday in Saudi Arabia with a sword. This kind of execution is usually public. I wonder if this kind of punishment is more effective than the way the US executes its prisoners. I am sure many will think it is not very humane to kill someone with a sword, but then again, capital punishment isn't a very humane thing to do anyway, no matter what the method, so let's not nitpick about how it's done.

Survivors holocaust reunited after 61 years
On a cheerier note, two brothers (67 and 63) were finally reunited after 61 years. They were both convinced the other had died in the war. They were separated in 1944, the older brother moving to Israel and the other staying in Budapest. The older brother got wind of his brother's whereabouts when going through documentation to get compensation from the German government.
