What's that smell?

With a bit of luck I'll be able to post this blog entry when I get into the office. I am on the train to the other office in The Hague. It takes a little longer so I can actually write my blog entry while I am on the train instead of in the office.
I don't have many stories this morning, I guess not every day is a good news day.

Party drug sold as air freshener
On the label it says that it can make the room smell better, but drug users also know that you can mix it up in your drink. The 'air freshener' Explosion is the latest party drug in The Netherlands according to the Trimbos Institute. The test tubes are sold with a vanilla scented liquid in the smart shop for about 12 euro each. According to the Trimbos Institute the active ingredient is methylone, which creates an extacy-like high. Due to the fact that is not on the opium list, a list of banned drugs, it is not illegal yet. The main problem, they say, is the fact that is sold under false pretences and people are not advised about the dosage. Another danger is that the effects on human health are as yet unknown. An air freshener that doesn't just smell good, it makes you feel good!

Escort service
A 31 year old policeman was convicted to a year in jail and a fine for running an escort service during office hours. Adds a whole new meaning to 'protect and serve', doesn't it?

Stone throwers out of jail for exams
Two kids who are currently on trial for throwing rocks off a viaduct onto oncoming traffic will be allowed to sit their exams. They'll be released from jail into house arrest and will be allowed out of the house only for the duration of the exams. At the end of the exams they'll have to go back to jail. I think these kids shouldn't be allowed out of jail at all. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. Make them bungy jump off the viaduct into oncoming traffic, see how they like that.

Saudi man beheaded for murder and witchcraft
A Saudi man was beheaded on Monday in the city of Taif for the murder of one man and allegedly bewitching women and having sex with them against their will. I can understand punishing someone for rape, but to call it witchcraft is a little passe, wouldn't you say? This guy is the 29th this year to be beheaded. This one took place in public, on a square, with the help of a sword. Quite a statement.
