Dragonflew

Today on my way back from work, I came across a dead dragonfly. It was lying on the ground in the trainstation. It probably died of dehydration, or something. There's a lot of water around that area, so it doesn't surprise me that I found one. The other day I noticed at least 6 of them flying around over the little grassy field behind our flat. I guess it's their mating season or something because they were chasing eachother. I remember my mum used to pick the larval exoskeletons from the reeds in the ponds in our old back garden. I had a whole collection of those monsterous looking things with their big jaws. One thing I have never figrued out is what do dragonflies eat. I know the larva eat a lot of other insects. According to this page they eat, among other things, mosquitoes. I guess that makes them very useful then. That page also has a lot of other information about the dragonfly. Guess that'll be the new thing I learned today.

Yesterday we went to the beach at Hoek van Holland again. This time we took the train and our bikes to save ourselves the walk from the station to the beach. Last time that took us a good half an hour which is not fun when it's really hot. Of course, unbeknownst to us, someone had decided to run a little train service from the station to the beach! If only that had been running the last time. It was one of those little trains that are really cars with two or more trailers. It was only €1 per person as well. It was €6 for each bike. I feel ripped off! On the beach we rented one of those wind breakers to keep some of the sand (and wind of course) off ourselves. We stayed for a few hours until I started getting a little too warm. There was no way I was going to repeat the last sun allergy incident. So far so good though. (knock on wood). We were a lot smarter this time though, we actually used the sun screen!
